About the Stigma-Free Society
The Stigma-Free Society (SFS) is a Canadian Charity registered since 2010 and our mission is to educate and support young people in their mental wellness journeys. We work to reduce stigma of all kinds, with a focus on the stigma around mental health. We have many amazing programs such as our Stigma-Free COVID-19 Youth Wellness Toolkit, the Student Mental Health Toolkit, and the Virtual Stigma-Free School Program. Our Student Mental Health Toolkit program is made for youth, educators, school counsellors, and parents/guardians, who want to teach and promote mental wellness for Grades 4-7 and 8-12. Through our Virtual Stigma-Free School program, we offer live virtual presentations in schools all over BC and we are expanding across Canada. Our latest project is the Rural Mental Wellness Toolkit which will be an online community-based mental health program that creates access to mental health education and peer support training, as well as practical and relatable resources for those living in rural and agriculture communities.
Our Story
The Stigma-Free Society (SFS) is a grassroots non-profit organization that was created in Victoria, BC. The project was ignited by Andrea Paquette, President and Co-Founder of SFS, who created a Bipolar Babe T-shirt and website to share her personal experience, so others did not have to suffer in silence like she once did. Her efforts led to meeting supportive and dedicated individuals in the local Victoria community who formed the Bipolar Disorder Society of British Columbia in 2010. The Charity changed their name to the Stigma-Free Society in August 2016, to expand their mandate and include the conversation around all stigmas, with a focus on mental health.
The Difference Your Donation Makes
Your donation will allow us to continue developing and leading mental health education and peer support services that will reach thousands of people. Through the Virtual School Presentations, we aim to reach 10,000+ students every year who will learn about stigma and witness presenters sharing their personal stories. With your help we will be able to continue developing our existing online Toolkits, and create more Toolkits in the future.
Your donation will go towards:
